Leave the Marketing to us!
The Point Breeze Yard Sale committee will:
Post flyers around the neighborhood and at local businesses.
Create online event postings on Pittsburgh event pages, Craigslist, Nextdoor, etc.
Collaborate with Pittsburgh neighborhood organizations and local businesses to share information about the event through their social media channels.
Post large sign around the neighborhood leading up to the event.
Provide yard signs to participants to advertise yard sales before the event.
Consider Your Layout
Set up your yard sale to draw in walking traffic.
Arrange your items by category.
Place hot ticket items near the sidewalk to lure in customers.
Pricing & Checkout
A good rule of thumb is to sell things for one-half to one-third their original price.
Try to price things with round numbers -- 25 cents instead of 15 cents; $2 instead of $1.80. This way, you'll avoid juggling loose change and making math errors.
Clearly mark each item's value with price tags. Keep it simple with masking/painter's tape and a marker.
Have a safe place to keep money.
Keep small bills and coins on hand to make change for customers.
Keep a calculator on hand to tally up all your customers' items.
Keep a few bags on hand for customers who buy multiple items.
